| I have so much to do today. And I will bet money that none of it will get done. Why you ask? Because it's raining. And it's supposed to rain all day. And around here, a rainy day is such a rare occasion that it feels like a special day when you shouldn't have to do any of the things you normally do. And since my motivation to work was in the "eh" range anyway, this is not good. It's not that I have anything big to do, it's just those last bits and bobs before we leave. Things like folding laundry, going to the post office, finishing the Christmas cards, those kind of things. Oh, and cleaning the bathrooms. They smelled funny when we got back from San Diego, and I have a feeling the funny smell will only increase while we are in Arkansas. So I'm going to clean them and see if that helps. If not, then we'll go from there. Oh, and I need to change the Christmas lights in the front windows. The girls helped me hang them, and as such, they just look pathetic. I love my children, but they are not very good at hanging Christmas lights. So, we went to San Diego last week. It was fun. I was nervous, but it ended up being a nice vacation. We got a suite, so we didn't have to go to bed at 8 p.m. which is always good. And we ate out every night, which was AWESOME. I love not having to cook. And since it was my birthday week, we got a free dessert everywhere we went. There was a surprising amount of kid friendly stuff to do in San Diego. We went to the Children's Museum, which was a big art museum for kids. They made these cool ornaments out of paper circles, they painted a car, made sculptures out of clay, played in a giant maze, and tons more stuff. It was great. I love art, and to see my kids really get into it was just awesome. We also went to the Science Center in Balboa Park. It was like the other Science Center we went to in LA, but the kids loved it anyway. My kids love any place they can go an build stuff or color stuff!! We also went to the Cabrillo Nat'l Monument and saw the tide pools. We didn't stay very long because the rocks were kind of slippery and it was more of a hike than Layni was up for, but we still got to see a few tide pools and Nora thought that was the greatest thing ever. And of course we went to the zoo, and Sea World. I liked the zoo, it was fun, but we paid $50 to get in, and I wouldn't say it was $50 worth of fun. Dave got in for free since he is Active Duty, but for me and Nora it was $50! That just seemed expensive to me for a zoo, even the San Diego Zoo. But Nora loved the Tigers. We also went to Sea World, and Nora liked the Dolphins, but both girls were so whiny we only stayed a few hours. Honestly, the kids enjoyed the more educational things we did more than the "fun" stuff. And I'm OK with that. Some friends of ours were shocked that we weren't going to Legoland and all that, but honestly, there are so many more things to do that are more fun for the kids, not to mention cheaper. That's the same reason we don't have season passes to Disney (which we've also been told we must get), there are more fun things to do that are less expensive. Both Dave and I's parents were really good about taking us to educational places when we were kids, so I guess that's just what we gravitate towards. Yeah, we're those parents. One thing I thought I would enjoy about San Diego, but really didn't was having cable again. For those of you who don't know, Dave and I had the cable turned off when we moved on base. And I've missed it. But having it again just made me realize how much crap is on TV these days. I know I sound like one of those crazy people who live up in the woods and homeschool their kids, but seriously, there is a lot of crap on TV. I liked being able to watch the news, but the rest of it, I could have left on the curb. And it's kind of timely because we've been debating whether or not to get cable again in Ohio, and I was on the definately get side. Now I'm on the "eh, doesn't matter to me" side. I think if we did get any kind of television again, we would just put an antenae on top of the house and get the three channels. I'm turning into a weirdo I guess. Well, I'm going to go. I think my younger daughter has befouled herself, and I need to take a shower. There are pics from San Diego on facebook if we're facebook friends!! |
